The Judges' take - Our judges praised the quality and crispness of the graphics as well as the overall execution of the design. The strong dynamic design creates a mood and gives the viewer a feeling as well as company and product identification. The name and logo are the focal point and are supported by the size and color of the graphic elements in a clear visual hierarchy. The supporting graphics of the vintage black and white photos lend themselves to the feeling of nostalgia and blend into the background of the design. They subtly tell the viewer about the company and its point of view. The design exhibits hardcore simplicity and creates lots of interest. The URL tag with the corner pulled up is turned in the direction of the logo and serves as a lead in to direct the eye to the corporate identity.

The Designer's take - Dan Gedman
Using “found” and created items with aged tones of wood and amplifier textures, the goal was to give the design a vintage feel without seeming out of date. The black and whites appear to be taken from an old photo album, but are in fact new images taken at a small club in Kansas City a couple of years ago. Anthony Bonadio of Reason Amps worked with our designers to create the display. All the members of the creative team are musicians and even play in a band together, so they are rooted in the product and the message. The display is meant to target what Mr. Bonadio calls an aspirational market: the images visually represent the dream of every guitar player. Although the company is new, the viewer gets the feeling that they have been around as long as rock and roll. The Display - The display was created for the NAMM International Music Products Association trade show. Reason Amps made a big impact at that show with their innovative display. They have used the display at regional shows, in demonstration videos, and in displays at their company headquarters. The lightweight portable format allows them the flexibility to use the display for many purposes. Hardware was a 4 panel Benchmark SNAP! with black fabric endcaps.

Second Place Winner: heart&core Athletic Apparel
Congratulations to co-owner and co-founder Lara Severson and designer Megan Nelson

The Judges' take - Our judges noted the unifying use of color. Magenta and black are repeated in the logo focal point and in the background. The design implies movement and action through the use of the curved lines that frame the company name. A clear hierarchy going from the foreground to the background adds to the impression of motion. Interest is created by reversing the shadow from black to white in the major graphic and varying the images from large to small creates a sense of depth. The utilization of graphics of women engaged in sporting activities sets a clear theme for what the company does – creates women’s athletic apparel.
The Designer's take - Megan Nelson is a friend of Lara Severson’s and offered her free-lance services to this dynamic new company. heart & core Athletic Apparel is aimed at women of all ages, shapes, and sizes. The silhouetted images are used to represent every woman. Ms. Nelson said she did not use specific fashion details so the display will be relevant to their products for a long time
.
The Display - The pop up graphic was created for the IDEA Fitness Conference in Chicago and utilized a 4 panel Nomadic Instand display with black fabric end caps. The display is an investment for the new company that they use extensively.

The Judges' take - Judges commented on the high quality of the execution, the use of bright color, and the positive feeling created while also sharing company branding. Clearly focused on fashion
and glamour, the monochromatic outfits, attention grabbing individually, fall into the background while the great hair styles, the goal of the products use, take over the composition.

The Designer's take - Candy and her husband Danny run Dandory Design in Calumet City, IL. Alberto Culver, a long standing high profile customer she and Danny maintain. The images of the models are from a Motions poster campaign. The original challenge presented to Dandory Design was to create a 20 foot exhibit with a single model shot. The goal was to attract hair stylists and stand out in the colorful and action-packed arena of a beauty trade show. Candy convinced the client to use additional figures to fill the available space. The results speak for themselves.

The Display - The exhibit was created for the Bronner Bros. International Hair Show. This winning graphic produced a 10 panel serpentine popup for a really big “WoW”. The hardware was a Benchmark SNAP! 4 panel back curve frame and 3 panel front curve frame with a floating center panel and two graphic endcaps. The resulting exhibit was a portable attention grabbing 20’ concave/convex wrap that was easily assembled, and selfsupporting.

Honorable Mention: M2 Architects
An honorable mention is awarded to M2 Architects submitted by Eric Milberjer. The judges recognized that there are times when the client does not want a large, sweeping image. This display had the information and images well organized with a strong corporate identification. The design had a controlled architectural feel to it and for the benefit of those seeing this small view, each of the squares are an image of a different skating rink project M2 designed and built. For more information about M2 Architects, visit www.m2architects.com
